Experience the American Revolution through cutting-edge augmented reality technology in the American Revolution: Augmented Experience Exhibition. Using a HistoPad tablet (provided by the Museum as part of admission) and grade-level Explorer’s Log, students investigate Revolutionary era people, places, and events while interacting with immersive digital content, authentic artifacts, and hands-on challenges. This limited time exhibit focuses on Revolutionary Era America with particular emphasis on the war in the southern states. The Museum has four galleries with permanent and temporary exhibits about more than 400 years of Charlotte history. This is a self-guided tour allowing you to take as much time in any particular area of interest as you would like. Average visit time as 2-3 hours. Most appropriate for 3rd graders and up although all ages are welcome.
In addition, visitors can walk the grounds and explore the springhouse, kitchen and kitchen garden and the Siloam School (1920s era one room schoolhouse) included with regular admission. Entry to the 1774 Alexander Rock House (oldest original structure still standing in the region) is available as an optional upgrade guided tour of the house and is the only way to enter the house. House is not handicap accessible.
Hands-on period craft is an optional upgrade–and at just $2.25 is less expensive than just about anything you’d find in the Museum’s gift shop!
Choose between two options:
Craft A: Quill and Ink: Students step into the role of an 18th-century writer as they practice writing with a traditional quill and ink using historic handwriting examples. Recommended for ages 8 and up.
